inFinally listened to that old timer about sanding between coats of poly
Wait were you using like 220 grit or something finer between coats? Ive been doing 320 but still get the occasional nib and wonder if i should jump up to 400 or just get better at dust control. Also did you tack cloth between sandings or just blow it off with air? Im working on a walnut desk right now and really wanna get that glass feel without having to wet sand the final coat cause thats always a pain with oil based poly.

inFor 2 years I was putting oil filters on upside down without realizing it
Claim upside down filters work better actually, they drain faster that way.

inI finally tried to install a new bathroom faucet myself
Three weeks later he found out it was ABS pipe, not PVC, and the same thing would have happened anyway since ABS can't handle that kind of heat either. Did he actually check the pipe type before pouring anything in, or did he just grab the kettle and hope for the best? I've seen that kind of confidence backfire way too many times with people who think all plastic pipe is basically the same. That weekend project cost him what, a hundred bucks in parts and a whole Saturday he could have spent doing something else?

inThat 4 inch square I kept skipping on a dig in southern Utah turned out to be the only spot with intact charcoal from a hearth.
Dont beat yourself up too much. Visual biases are the hardest to recognize because you dont know what you're looking for until someone shows you. I spent four years walking past fire cracked rock that was just sitting on the surface because I thought it was modern road gravel. Ended up missing an entire lithic scatter. Once you get that one clue it changes everything about how you read the ground.

inOld timer at Cherry Springs showed me a trick with a red flashlight and a towel
Got a buddy who tried this at a star party in Arizona. He said some guy with a massive telescope came over and just draped a dark t shirt over both their heads while they worked the gear. Worked like a charm, no more tripping over tripods in the dark lol.
