Showerthought: Getting my home tool wall set up for elevator work made my week

I spent Sunday afternoon putting up a pegboard in my garage to hang all my elevator tools. I sorted everything by use, like wrenches for rail adjustments and meters for electrical checks. It took a few hours to measure and place each hook just right. Yesterday, I had a call for a sticky door on a local lift, and I could grab my exact tools without digging through a bag. Having my gear organized cut my prep time down and let me focus on the fix. It felt great to walk in, do the job clean, and pack up fast. That little project at home really smoothed out a workday. Sometimes the small things, like knowing where your stuff is, pay off more than you think.

Thirty minutes to find a socket DEFINES my tool chaos.

Been there, spent more time looking for tools than using them. Grab a magnetic strip from the hardware store, stick it on the wall near your work area. Toss sockets and wrenches on it right after you're done. Suddenly, everything has a home without fancy labels. You'll cut that search time down to seconds, not minutes.

Two years ago, my tool bag was just a heap of wrenches and pliers. I always thought being fast meant knowing roughly where everything was. That changed after I helped a friend set up his workshop and saw how he labeled everything. Now, having a spot for each screwdriver saves me minutes on every home repair. Your post about the elevator tools reminds me how that small effort pays off big during a workday.
