Question about the new code for door restrictor gap checks
I keep seeing guys in my shop just eyeball the gap with a tape measure instead of using the feeler gauge set, which seems wrong. Our inspector in Boise called us out on it last week, saying the spec is 1/8 inch max and you need the right tool. How do you make sure your team actually follows the book on this stuff?

Can you believe they still try to eyeball a one-eighth inch spec?

Seriously, what kind of shop is still running like that? It feels like a total lack of respect for the craft. That tiny margin is the difference between something that works and a complete fail. Are they just hoping no one will check, or is there some old-timer who insists his eyes are calibrated?
