My recent job made me question the push for all-digital control panels
We were upgrading an older building's lifts to the latest touchscreen systems. Everyone on site was praising how sleek and modern they looked. But I had to troubleshoot one that froze up mid-cycle, and without physical buttons, it was a nightmare to reset. In my view, keeping some manual overrides isn't old-school, it's just smart. Relying solely on screens can leave us stranded when they fail.

Yeah we had that exact problem with a new HVAC panel last year. Found the hard reset was behind a tiny access panel nobody knew about, total pain. Now we laminate the emergency procedure and tape it inside the door every time.

Actually, digital panels cut down on wear and tear from physical buttons that break over time. Even @coleman.jade's stuck elevator was probably a rare case, since most new systems have remote fixes and better uptime. Holding onto manual overrides just slows down the shift to smarter, more efficient buildings.

My pal's elevator touchscreen failed... stuck until they found the physical override.
