Finally found a way to stop that annoying door close delay on old Otis units

Been fighting this one elevator at a condo building in Denver for weeks where the doors would take a solid 4-5 seconds before closing after someone got in. Tried cleaning the rollers, checking the door limit switches, all the usual stuff. Yesterday I realized the door close button spring was getting stuck partially compressed from years of grime. Spent 10 minutes cleaning it out with contact cleaner and a tiny brush latley and now it closes almost instantly. Has anyone else had a button assembly cause timing issues like that?

Guess Otis finally took "button mashing" literally.

Man I feel your pain on this one, we had a similar issue with an Otis unit in a high rise last year and it drove me crazy for two days. Turned out the door close button plunger had a tiny crack letting dirt get inside and gum things up. Did you notice any intermittent sticking before you finally got to the button assembly?
