Bought a cheap cable tension gauge and it cost me a full day's pay

I got this 'budget' gauge online for about 40 bucks to check hoist ropes. The needle stuck on the third reading, showing way under tension. I spent hours adjusting a perfectly good system in a downtown office building before my foreman brought his certified tool over. The real tension was fine, my gauge was junk. I lost a full 10 hour day's wage fixing a problem that didn't exist. Has anyone found a decent mid-priced brand that actually holds calibration?

My buddy Jake had the same thing happen with a torque wrench from Harbor Freight. He stripped three bolts before he realized, totally gets what reese177 is saying. What brand did your foreman's good gauge end up being?

Man, that's a brutal way to waste a day's pay.
