Desoldering wick was my last resort until this repair.

Had a console motherboard with solder bridges everywhere. Wick cleaned it up perfectly, and now I keep a roll handy. Feels good to be wrong sometimes lol.

I always thought wick was too slow for real work. But cleaning up a dozen bridges on a PS2 board changed my mind, it was the only thing that got in there.

Wow, calling desoldering wick a 'last resort' is like calling a tow truck a last resort for a flat tire. That stuff's a miracle worker.

Try changing a surface mount chip with just a wick and then get back to me. I mean sure, it's great for cleaning up a through-hole joint. But watching someone fight a multi-pin IC with a braid is like watching a squirrel try to open a walnut with a noodle. For real cleanup jobs you need a proper vacuum pump. Maybe it's just me but calling it a miracle feels like a stretch.
