Layers in CAD: I thought they were extra hassle until a revision went south
Always skipped layers to save time. Just dumped all lines together. Had to fix a huge mechanical layout last month. Could not tell pipes from electrical lines. Took days to sort out. Now I set layers first thing on every job. Trust me, it prevents major headaches.

What naming convention do you use for your layers now? Like, do you have a standard set of names for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing, or does it change per project? I'm curious if you separate structural elements like steel beams onto their own layer too.

Tbh, proper layers save so much time later when things get messy.

Used to just dump everything on a few layers. Thought it was faster. Then had to hunt for a single plumbing line in a huge renovation file. Took forever. Now I split things like steel, concrete, and even different MEP systems. Makes turning things on and off so much easier.
