Decided between caulk and foam for sealing a drafty window, picked foam
I had this old window in my basement letting in a cold draft all winter. I couldn't decide if I should use a tube of caulk or get a can of expanding foam. I went with foam because the gap was pretty big, maybe half an inch in spots. It worked great, filled everything tight, but I made a mess with the overflow and had to trim it with a knife. Anyone else have trouble cleaning up foam residue off the glass?

Just you wait til you try getting foam off your hands. I swear I looked like I wrestled a glow-in-the-dark octopus for a week. Tried acetone, goo gone, even sandpaper on my own skin at one point. The glass is actually the easy part if you catch it before it fully cures, a razor blade scrapes it right off once it's hard. But yeah the overflow trimming is just part of the deal with foam, you gotta overfill or it won't seal right. Pro tip: cover the frame edges with painters tape next time so you just peel the mess off instead of scraping.

Damn dude, that glow-in-the-dark octopus visual is way too accurate. I had foam stuck in my fingerprints for like three days straight and nothing would get it off, not even that pumice soap stuff. The painters tape trick is a lifesaver though, wish I thought of that before I spent an hour with a razor blade on my window frame.
