Finally figured out why my PC kept crashing during gaming sessions

I spent like 3 months dealing with random shutdowns when playing anything heavier than Minecraft. After swapping RAM, GPU, even the power supply, I noticed my CPU cooler fan wasn't spinning up fast enough. Turned out the fan curve in BIOS was set to silent mode from when I built the PC in 2022. Changed it to standard last night and ran Cyberpunk for 4 hours straight without a single crash. Has anyone else had a silly BIOS setting mess with them this bad?

Think thermal paste degrades over time too, that could've been it.

Oh man, I mean is it really that big of a deal? I've had thermal paste on some of my old builds for like 5 years and never noticed a huge difference. Idk, maybe I'm just not running hardcore enough games, but I feel like people get way too worked up about a little tube of goo. Like unless you're constantly running your CPU at 100% for hours on end, it's probably fine. I'd believe it more if someone showed me actual numbers before and after.
