Saw a clever built-in bench at a cafe in Boise that I want to copy

It had hidden storage under the seat and was made from simple pine boards. How would you attach something like that to a wall without it wobbling?

Actually used to just screw things straight into drywall and wonder why they got loose. For a bench, you really need to find the wall studs with a stud finder and lag bolt the main frame into those. A French cleat is a solid way to go too, it hangs on the wall really strong. What kind of wall are you putting this on?

Yeah, mason361 is totally right about finding studs. I learned that the hard way after a shelf full of books came down. A French cleat feels like overkill until you see how rock solid it is.

@finley939 preaching the gospel of French cleats now, huh? Next thing you know they'll be telling us to glue our shoes to the floor so we don't trip. I had a shelf full of canned goods come down last winter and the drywall looked like a crime scene. French cleats on a workbench are like wearing a belt and suspenders, but at least you won't be picking books off the floor at 2am.
