I just found out my favorite digital painting is 8.5 million pixels

I was reading about the artist Loish yesterday and saw a note about her piece 'Momentum'. The file size is over 8.5 million pixels! That's like 4000 by 2000 or something crazy. I always thought my 2000 by 2000 canvases were big. It makes sense why her work looks so smooth up close, but I never guessed the number was that high. It really shows how much detail goes into professional pieces. Has anyone else been shocked by the specs of a piece they love?

Wait, you can actually see the file specs for stuff like that? That's wild. I looked up the piece after reading your post and zooming in on the hair details is insane. It's just smooth color shifts forever. Makes my old attempts at digital portraits look like pixel art. I guess that's the difference between a hobby sketch and a real finished piece. Makes you respect the time it takes.

The thing that gets me is the brush economy. Like that artist only used three custom brushes for the whole hair section. One for the base flow, one for flyaways, one for shine. Seeing the layers turned off shows they built it up in passes instead of trying to get it perfect in one go. It's a workflow thing that changes how you even start the piece.
