Found out how much data is in a single 4K digital painting file

I was cleaning up my hard drive and saw my latest piece was over 2 gigabytes. I looked it up and a site said a single 4K image with tons of layers can hold more raw data than a full length movie. My mind is blown that a still picture can be that big. Anyone else have a huge file that surprised them?

That's the layers, not the raw image data.

Exactly, the layers thing trips so many people up. I spent like an hour once trying to figure out why my file size was huge, blaming the image. Turns out I had a dozen hidden adjustment layers from messing around. It's never just the photo data, it's all that extra stuff the program saves. Makes a massive difference when you're trying to send files or free up space.
