That $400 infrared thermometer was the best money I ever spent on the shop.

We had a 6.7 Powerstroke with a weird intermittent power loss that had us chasing our tails for three days. Hooked up the scanner, checked codes, swapped sensors, nothing. Pointed the IR gun at the exhaust manifold runners and found a 200-degree difference between cylinders 3 and 4 under load. Pinpointed a bad injector in ten minutes. Anyone have a go-to tool that's saved you from a real headache like that?

My old timing light found a bad plug wire on my truck in like two minutes flat.

Honestly, that "two minutes flat" thing is why I keep my old tools around too. I read a forum post once where someone had a similar temp spread and it turned out to be a stuck thermostat, not the injector. Amy's point about trying the simple swap first is smart, saves so much time. Tbh, half the time it's the basic stuff that gets you.

That 200-degree spread is wild. Did you try swapping the injector first like @the_kelly's plug wire trick?
