My neighbor in Atlanta talked me into a store brand switch I laughed at first

My neighbor Steve kept telling me the Harris Teeter brand canned tomatoes were just as good as Cento for twice the price. I laughed at him for months, thought he was just being cheap. Finally tried a can last week on my chili recipe and honestly couldn't tell the difference. Saved about $1.50 per can which adds up when you cook chili every Sunday. Anybody else have a brand snob moment that turned out to be dumb?

Tbh @sanchez.mia is right, the pasta thing is a real trap. I was the same way with Rao's marinara, swore nothing else was worth it, then tried the Aldi knockoff out of desperation and it's like 80% as good for a third of the price. Ngl, it stings a little realizing how much money I wasted being a brand snob.

wait did you seriously just try the store brand and not notice a diff? lol thats wild but honestly same thing happened to me with pasta. I was a De Cecco snob for years, thought anything else would be mushy garbage. Then my roommate bought the Target brand one time and I was so mad I refused to eat it at first. Finally caved and it was literally fine. Not life changing or anything but totally acceptable for regular spaghetti nights. Now I feel dumb for all those extra dollars I spent.
