Tried a vertical GPU mount after years of sideways builds...

I finally got around to trying a vertical GPU mount on my latest build, mostly cause I was tired of seeing my 2070 sag. Hooked it up with a cheap bracket off Amazon for $25, but the airflow was way worse than I expected... temps jumped a solid 8 degrees under load. Ended up having to cut a hole in the PSU shroud to get better bottom intake flow. Has anyone else dealt with that temp jump with vertical mounts, or did I just pick a bad bracket?

You've got my sympathies, that 8 degree jump sounds rough. I had a similar thing happen with my first vertical mount and it drove me nuts for weeks (my 5700 XT was basically cooking itself). The clearance between the glass and the fans is just too tight on a lot of these cheap brackets, they don't think about where the air is actually supposed to go. Your PSU shroud hack is genius though, I ended up just ditching the mount entirely and going back to sideways with a support bracket.

Have you tried flipping the fans around to pull air from the back instead? I did that on my second vertical mount and it dropped temps by a good 5 degrees or so. The key was having a mesh back panel so the fans could actually breathe, otherwise it was just recycling hot air. My Phanteks case worked great that way with an Arctic cooler strapped on. What case are you running that gave you that 8 degree spike?
