I just learned how many smart home devices get hacked because people never change the default password
I was reading a report from a security group and it said over 15% of smart home gadgets like cameras and doorbells still use the factory password. I checked my own stuff and sure enough, my old garage door opener from 2020 was still on 'admin123'. It's wild because you set it up once and forget it. I changed all my passwords this morning and added a guest network just for those devices. Has anyone else done a full check on their smart home gear lately?

Check your router settings too because a lot of those devices are wide open from there. I found my old smart plugs were still using the default network name which made them easy to find. Setting up that separate guest network was the best move I made.

Tried that and it really cut down on weird network traffic.

But honestly how many people are actually out there trying to hack smart plugs? It feels like we're solving a problem that doesn't exist for most folks. My router's been on the default settings for years and nothing bad has happened.
