Overheard a guy at the library say 'the villain was right' about a book, and it's stuck with me all week.

Was it a specific book or just a general thing? I read a piece once about how modern stories often give villains a point to make them more interesting. It makes you question who the real bad guy is. Sometimes the hero's side is just as messed up if you look at it. That kind of story sticks with you way longer.
