Tried that new load leveling indicator on a Liebherr LTM 1050 yesterday

Ngl, I was skeptical about dropping $200 on a digital load cell for our older crane, but I hooked it up before a tricky pick in downtown Austin. The thing actually showed a 2% off-center load right as I started the lift, which I would have totally missed with my old eyeball method. Has anyone else used one of these on a rough terrain crane, or am I just late to the party?

My buddy runs a crane outfit in Houston, and he swears by the old eyeball method, says he's never had a single close call in 20 years of lifting. I mean, 2% off center on a load, that sounds like something you'd adjust for naturally as you lift, right? These digital gadgets can break or lose calibration, and then you're stuck with a dead screen and no backup plan. Plus, that $200 could buy a decent set of rigging slings or a few lunches for the crew, which feels like a better use of cash on an older machine that's already paid for itself. Not saying it's useless, but maybe we overthink these things sometimes.

That "2% off-center load" bit hits home, I've had a few close calls myself relying on just gut feel. Glad the new indicator caught it for you before it became a problem.
