Tried that viral 'butterfly cut' method on a client yesterday... total disaster
I saw this technique all over TikTok where you cut hair in a V shape with the scissors pointing up and it supposedly gives perfect layers. Well, I tried it on my sister's wavy hair yesterday and one side came out 2 inches shorter than the other. She was cool about it and I fixed it with point cutting, but man that trend is garbage for real hair types. Anyone else have a TikTok technique backfire on them?

Hold on, hold on. I actually love that butterfly cut method and use it all the time. Maybe you just did it wrong? I've done it on like five different clients now with straight, wavy, even curly hair and it came out perfect every single time. The secret is you have to pull the hair straight up at a 90 degree angle from the scalp and make sure both sides are exactly even before you make the V. If your sister has a side part that could throw the whole thing off too. TikTok techniques get a bad rap but most of the time it's user error not the method itself.

Has anyone else tried using a mirror to double check the back before cutting?
