Rant: My uncle in Reno swore I could trust that forum tip about the election, and now I'm out $200 and a friendship
Six months ago my uncle Rick, who lives in Reno, kept pushing me to join this private group where a guy claimed he had insider proof that the whole vote tally in Washoe County was swapped by a software glitch. Rick told me word for word, 'Just pay the $200 for the data dump, it's going to blow up any day.' I did it, and the files were just screenshots from Twitter with typos and a PayPal request. The group went dark 3 weeks later and Rick still won't admit he got played, so now family dinners are real awkward. Has anyone else paid real money for a so-called leak and gotten nothing but recycled posts?
That bit about "it's going to blow up any day" is the oldest trick in the book, I saw a whole writeup about how these leak groups always dangle a date that never comes so people keep paying. They basically survive on family members vouching for them, which is what makes it so messy when the person you trust is the one who got fooled. Rick probably can't face it because admitting he was wrong means admitting he dragged you into it.
