Noticed something strange at the Grand Canyon last summer

I went to the Grand Canyon in July 2023 and saw something weird. There were these vans with blacked out windows driving around the South Rim, not stopping at any of the viewpoints. They had government plates on them, no logos or anything. I counted 7 of them over two days, all taking the same route on a service road. A ranger I asked just shrugged and said they were 'doing maintenance checks'. Has anyone else seen government vehicles acting suspicious around national parks?

Dude yes, I saw the exact same thing at Zion last September. These boxy white vans with those deep tinted windows, no plates at all actually, just crawling along a restricted gravel road near the Kolob Canyons section. A group of us were hiking and watched them go back and forth three times in like an hour, kicking up dust but never stopping anywhere. One guy in our group tried to take a photo and this other ranger came over super fast asking what we were looking at, totally brushed us off about it being 'infrastructure surveys'. Felt weird, not like normal park service stuff at all.

Wyatt_green, that's wild you saw the same thing at Zion. We were at the Grand Canyon last spring and noticed a convoy of those same vans, no logos at all, parked near a locked gate on the Hermit Road. A ranger told us it was "routine soil testing" but the whole setup felt off, like they wanted no attention. Glad I'm not the only one who spotted this.
