Had to eat my words about Hades last week
I always thought roguelikes were just hard for no reason and not fun. My buddy kept telling me to try Hades on his Switch for like 6 months. I finally sat down with it after a slow week at work and gave it a proper 3 hours. The story actually moves forward even when you die, and the weapon variety kept me coming back. Has anyone else been surprised by a game genre you usually skip?

Read somewhere that Hades has one of the most satisfying progression loops in the genre, and after putting 40 hours in I totally get why people call it the gateway roguelike.

The way the game handles failure in Hades is genius... you actually want to die sometimes because you know you'll unlock more story or upgrade your relationships. I've never seen another roguelike where getting wrecked by a boss feels like progress instead of just starting over from scratch. Like dying to Theseus for the fifth time still stings but at least Achilles will have some new dialogue about it. That emotional hook is what kept me coming back long after I thought I'd be bored.
