Picked a used Juniper EX2200 over a new Netgear switch for my small office setup
I run a small warehouse with maybe 15 computers and some cameras. Couldn't decide between a cheap new Netgear switch for $150 or a used Juniper EX2200 off eBay for $80. I went with the Juniper because I figured it'd hold up better. Three months in and zero issues so far, even handles VLAN tagging for my IP cameras like a champ. Anyone else take a gamble on used enterprise gear for a small business?

Did you read about those Juniper switches having a really solid lifespan compared to consumer stuff? I saw a post on a networking forum where a guy was still running an EX2200 after like 8 years in a lab. That's kind of crazy for a used box for 80 bucks. For a small warehouse with cameras, VLANs are probably the main thing you need and it sounds like this thing handles them easy. I think you made the right call, the Netgear might have crapped out in a year.

Oh man, have you looked at the power draw difference yet? That Juniper probably sips like half the electricity of a new consumer switch over three years, so it basically pays for itself in utility savings alone.
