The $80 textbook I bought for a class I dropped after two days

I signed up for Introduction to Eastern Philosophy thinking it would be a easy elective. Bought the required book from the campus store for $80. After the second lecture I realized it was all about ancient texts and nothing like I expected. Dropped the class and the bookstore wouldn't take the book back because I'd already written my name in it. Now it's sitting on my shelf as a $80 reminder to at least skim the syllabus next time. Has anyone else bought a textbook for a class they ended up hating?

Did you at least try to sell it on like Facebook Marketplace or one of those textbook buy/sell groups before giving up? lol I feel like there's gotta be some other poor soul out there who could use it, even if it's got your name in it. I've always found it wild how textbooks are basically a scam, like you pay full price for something that's worth less than half the second you walk out the store. I once had a professor insist we buy the "newest edition" for like $150 and then literally never opened it the whole semester, just used slides he made himself. It's honestly a crime how much money we throw away on these things.

Ugh, right? It's such a waste, I swear they design these things to be worthless after one semester just to squeeze us. I've got a stack of old textbooks in my closet I keep telling myself I'll sell but never do, it's like a monument to all the money I'll never get back. Solidarity in being stuck with overpriced paperweights I guess, lol.
