Gave my French press a good cleaning and it broke on me

I was doing a deep clean on my French press last Sunday and the glass carafe just cracked right in half. It was an old Bodum I have had for about 5 years so I guess it was bound to happen. I had just unscrewed the plunger and put it in the sink with some warm soapy water. When I picked it up to rinse it off the bottom just gave out. Cut my finger a little on the glass but nothing serious. I ended up ordering a stainless steel replacement off Amazon for $30 since I am tired of worrying about glass breakage. That one came in two days and I have been using it fine so far. Has anyone else switched from glass to stainless for their press?

Five years is pretty good, that thing must have been through a lot of hot water.

Nah, @coleman.jade, five years is barely warming things up. A good electric kettle should last a decade easy if you're not boiling swamp water in it. These things are simple machines, just a heating element and a switch, not like they're packed with moving parts that wear out fast.
