Spent 3 years blaming my inserts before finding the real issue was a worn spindle taper
Kept chasing chatter and bad finishes on the same job out of Fresno, swapped every tool and holder in the cabinet, then an old timer from the next bay ran a test bar and showed me the taper had .002 of runout the whole time, anyone else ever burn weeks on the wrong suspect?
That Fresno job sounds like a nightmare, chasing inserts while the taper was quietly ruining every pass. Been there with a bad drawbar spring once and I felt like a real idiot after the fact.
