Ran my vise too loose for years until Ray caught it on a Monday
For about six years I cranked my mill vise down hard and figured tighter was always safer. Ray, the guy who trained me back at the plant in Toledo, watched me clamp a block last Monday and pointed at the jaw lifting a hair off the part. He said I was bowing the jaw and my parallels had been lying to me the whole time. I checked with a .002 feeler gauge and sure enough there was daylight under one side. Curious how many of you were taught the same, and did anyone show you the feeler gauge trick before you learned it the hard way?
