Found a 2 inch drill bit stuck in a part from 2019, operator swore it was new stock
We were running a batch of aluminum brackets yesterday and the coolant flow was weird on station 3. Pulled the fixture apart and there it was, a broken 2 inch carbide drill bit jammed in the chip auger slot. Date stamped on the tool holder said 2019. The guy who loaded the machine swore it was fresh from the crib. I had to take a photo and zoom in on the holder tag to prove him wrong. He still claimed someone swapped the tag. Has anyone else found hidden time capsules like this in their machines?

Did the guy really think somebody snuck into the crib and swapped tags just to mess with him? That is a wild excuse when the date stamp is right there in the photo. I have pulled plenty of "new" tools out of machines that turned out to be years old, and it usually means the crib has junk hiding in the back of a drawer. Nobody wants to admit they grabbed the wrong bin, so they make up a story instead. The tags do not lie, and a 2019 holder in a machine running new stock is a problem waiting to scrap a batch.
