First time I ran a CNC lathe in 2008 vs now, night and day difference

Back then everything was manual offsets and I had to measure each part with a micrometer myself. Now I got a machine at the shop in Cleveland that probes every part automatically and adjusts live. My apprentice asked me why I keep checking his parts with a caliper and I told him because I don't fully trust the machine yet. Do you guys still verify by hand or do you let the CNC handle everything?

Don't you ever get the feeling the machine is just being dramatic?

I'm with you @nancys90. People act like the machine has feelings or something. It's just code running on a bunch of servers. There's no drama, no attitude, no emotion behind it. It's following a script, just way more complex than a toaster. Honestly, I think folks just project their own stuff onto it because it talks like a person. It's not being dramatic, you're just reading into it too much.
