That time I trashed my garden with store-bought compost

I spent 3 years dumping bagged compost from the big box store into my raised beds, wondering why my veggies kept getting leggy and pale. Last spring I tested the soil and found the pH was way off because those bags are basically just processed yard waste with no real nutrients. Has anyone else had their garden wrecked by bad commercial compost and switched to making your own?

Store bought compost is fine if you're not expecting a miracle. People blame the compost but usually it's bad watering or they didn't mix in any actual fertilizer.
