Spent $200 on a home energy monitor and it paid for itself in 4 months

Ngl I was skeptical about those whole house energy monitors but I grabbed a Sense unit for $200 last spring. It showed me my old fridge was pulling 800 watts constantly because the seal was shot. Replaced it with a used Energy Star model for $150 and my bill dropped by like $50 a month. The monitor also caught my water heater running way longer than it should. Honestly it's wild how much small stuff adds up. Anyone else use one of these and find something surprising?

Did you try checking if your water heater had a timer or a setting you could adjust? I got a similar monitor a couple years ago and it was wild what it showed me about my old water heater (it was running basically 24/7 because the thermostat was busted). I swapped out the thermostat for like $30 and that alone cut my bill by $30-40 a month. Also found out my desktop computer was pulling power even when "off" because of the USB ports staying live. Unplugging that and the TV at night saved me another $15 or so. These things really do pay for themselves way faster than you'd think (especially if you've got older appliances).
