Dropped $200 on a smart thermostat last winter
Figured out after three months that just turning the heat down by 2 degrees saved me $40 on the gas bill alone. Anyone else find a small change that actually paid off quick?

Did that $40 savings factor in your system having to work harder to reheat the house?

Oh come on, you really think my HVAC system is gonna cry over a few degrees? It's not like I'm asking it to run a marathon, just do its job for an extra 10 minutes. I'd rather pay a little more on the electric bill than hand over $40 to the power company just to keep my house slightly warm while I'm not even home. Plus, my thermostat's got a schedule, it knows when I'm coming back and starts cozying up the place before I walk in. So yeah, I'll take my $40 and buy something dumb, like a new coffee mug.
