I finally tried that 'pre-stretch' method on a big commercial job in Spokane

Always thought it was just extra work for no real gain, but we had a 50-foot seam on a tight timeline. The foreman insisted, so we hooked up the power stretchers for a full 2% stretch before the final tack. The seam stayed FLAT as a board for the whole install, zero puckering. Anyone else had a job that completely changed their mind on a 'fancy' technique?

My buddy swore pre-stretch was a scam until his crew had to redo a whole hotel lobby. He's a total convert now.

Come on, it's just stretching carpet. How many times does a seam actually fail without it? Feels like a solution looking for a problem most days.

That hotel lobby story from barbara399 makes me wonder, how many square feet was it?
