Warning: That career pivot into tech sales wasn't a magic fix

I jumped into a SaaS sales role at a company called CloudPeak back in March after reading all those 'best decision ever' stories online. By June I'd hit my quota once and spent the rest of the time cold-calling 80 leads a day with zero real training. Has anyone else tried a drastic industry switch and found the reality way different than the hype?

Did you actually try to ask for help before giving up? I'm in a similar role at a different company and the first few months are always brutal, but training is something you have to go find yourself. My buddy went through the same thing at a mid-size SaaS company and after sending a few emails to senior reps and asking to sit in on their calls he turned his numbers around completely. Cold calling 80 leads a day is the entry level grind for pretty much everyone who starts in tech sales. The hype stories usually leave out the part where you have to scratch and claw for your first year. Are you sure the problem is the industry itself and not just the way you approached the learning curve?

You said "training is something you have to go find yourself" and that's a fair point, but did you ever actually feel like the company culture punished you for not knowing stuff right away? Some places make you feel like an idiot for asking too many questions and that freezes people up. If you were in that spot, would you have kept pushing or just cut your losses?
