Started asking for a specific dollar amount in salary negotiations instead of 'flexible'

I did this last month during an interview for a logistics coordinator role in Chicago, and they actually came back with $52k which was exactly what I asked for. Has anyone else found that naming a number first works better than waiting for them to lowball you?

Exactly what I needed to hear because last week I threw out a number and the guy laughed at me and said "are you serious?" like I was crazy. @rowank69 I feel your pain on that one, some people just don't get the whole negotiation game where you gotta aim high or low depending on who's asking. It's like if they don't blink when you say it, you probably should've gone lower or higher depending what side you're on. I swear half the time it's just a test to see if you're confident or just guessing. Glad you two got your numbers though, wish I could say the same for my luck.

Oh hey thats awesome they actually came back with exactly what you asked for. I remember one time I just threw out a number without even thinking and the guy got all weird about it and started asking if I was serious.
