My cheap sleeping pad popped on a cold night in the Smokies, and I finally got the message.
I woke up on the ground at 3 AM, shivering, and it clicked that saving $50 on gear can cost you a lot more in comfort and safety. Anyone have a reliable 4-season pad they'd actually trust below freezing?

My $20 pad lasted five winters.

Learn that lesson the hard way myself. Spent a night on a deflated pad that felt like a giant ice cube tray. My teeth chattered so loud I scared off the raccoons. Now I treat a good pad like a spare kidney, not something to cheap out on.

Wait, five winters on a twenty dollar pad? That's some kind of miracle, I don't buy it for a second. My buddy had one of those and it gave up before the first trip was even over. After my own bad night, I just bit the bullet and got a real insulated one. That cold ground steals your heat so fast you can't even think straight.
