Guy at a campsite in Colorado told me to stop using alcohol stove windscreens

I always used a windscreen with my Trangia until this older hiker explained how it trapped heat and could cause the fuel to boil over. He showed me his scorched tent floor as proof, made me rethink the whole setup. Anyone else been told to ditch their windscreen?

You ever see someone's gear get wrecked by their own stove? My buddy Dan used a windscreen on his MSR pocket rocket up in the Tetons. Boiled water fine for two days. Third morning he woke up to a melted cup and a puddle of fuel eating through his tent floor. The whole thing pooled up and caught a little flame. He was lucky he woke up when he did. Now he just finds a rock to block the wind.
