Chatting with a stranger at the trailhead about their water filter totally shifted how I weigh review complaints.

I mean, idk, maybe it's just me but hearing their story about a leaky seal in the backcountry made me see that minor flaws in reviews can mean big problems when you're actually out there.

Ever had a stove fail at high altitude?

My buddy's MSR WhisperLite died at 12,000 feet last spring. Was it a pressure problem with the fuel canister?

Saw a stove quit at high camp. Thin air really affects how the fuel burns.

So, when you say thin air affects the burn, is it mostly about oxygen levels or does the fuel not turn into gas as well? I've heard that liquid fuel stoves like WhisperLites can be set for altitude, but canister stoves just lose pressure. Did you try warming the canister or something to keep it going? What was the exact setup when it failed?
