Appreciation post: my tent stake broke in a storm and I learned a lesson about cheap gear

I was camping in the Smokies last October when a sudden wind gust snapped my $5 stake at midnight, and I had to wedge a rock under the corner of my tent to keep it from flying away, has anyone else had to MacGyver a fix like that?

Used a trekking pole as a tent stake in a pinch" - I had a buddy do something similar, @palmer.henry. He snapped his last stake on a rocky site and jammed his pole in the dirt sideways to hold the corner down. Worked okay for the night but the pole got scratched up pretty bad, so your mileage may vary if you try it.
