A ranger at Rainier laughed at my 3 pound first aid kit and now my pack is 6 pounds lighter
I was at the White River campground near Mount Rainier last Saturday and a park ranger saw me digging through my first aid kit for a bandaid for my kid's knee. She said most of what I was carrying was stuff I would never use on a trail. She pulled out her own kit, which was about the size of a sandwich, and it had just the basics, tape, gauze, a few pills, and a tiny pair of scissors. I went home and weighed my old kit at 3.2 pounds and rebuilt it down to 11 ounces. My whole pack dropped about 2 pounds and my shoulders felt it on the hike up to Sunrise the next day. What stuff did you all finally leave at home after carrying it for way too long?
