Spent $400 on a proper shutter tester and it saved my sanity on a Nikon F3

Was chasing a weird timing issue for a week, but the tester showed a sticky second curtain magnet right away. Anyone have a good source for those little foam damper pads that don't turn to goo?

Ever think to check the actual magnet itself for corrosion? I've had to lightly sand the contact face on an F3 before, after the foam goo got on it. For the pads, I've had decent luck with the pre-cut kits from US Camera, but you still have to clean the old residue perfectly.

Sanding the magnet is a pro move. I spent an hour cleaning goo before realizing the door just wouldn't stick.

Good call on the magnet. That foam goo gets everywhere and kills the hold. A quick pass with some fine sandpaper usually brings it back to life. The pre-cut kits are a lifesaver, but you're right, the cleaning part is the real job. Any leftover gunk just makes the new foam lift again later.
