Rant: The local hardware store stopped carrying solid wood dowels

I stopped by the local hardware store to get dowels for a project, but they only stock cheap composite ones now. It hit me that quality materials are becoming scarce around here. This means we have to look online or at specialty places, which slows things down. Maybe I should start keeping a bigger inventory. Just a thought from my last supply run.

That shift to cheaper materials hits beginners hardest. They're trying to learn with stuff that splits and warps, which just kills confidence. Makes the hobby way harder to get into.
