My first earnest money deposit didn't feel real until it cleared
I used to just throw money at the landlord for a security deposit, no big deal. But writing a $5,000 check for earnest money on a house in Columbus last month made me stop and actually sweat for a second. Did anyone else feel like that money was way more scary than rent?

OH man, that earnest money check hits DIFFERENT. It’s like you’re suddenly playing with real adult money instead of just monthly rent that you can kind of forget about.

$4,000 just sitting there in some lawyer's trust account, paying more attention to closing dates than my own birth certificate would. It's like writing a check to a stranger and hoping they don't just take it and run for a margarita. The worst part is watching that money leave your account and then waiting 45 days to find out if you get it back or lose it to some weird inspection report about a cracked sidewalk. Honestly, that check anxiety is worse than the mortgage payment itself.
