That 10 dollar magnetic tip adapter messed up my phone speaker

I bought a 2 pack off the rack in Albany last month and stuck one on my daily phone for easier plugging at night. Within a week the call volume dropped to a whisper and I traced it to the charger port grounding out the audio through the magnetic pins. Has anyone else had a magnetic USB-C tip cause speaker failure, or did I just get a bad batch from the clearance bin?

That exact same thing happened to me with a cheap magnetic adapter from a dollar store. My phone speaker started sounding all muffled and crackly like it was underwater, and I could barely hear my alarms in the morning. Took me way too long to figure out it was the adapter messing with the charging port, not the actual speaker dying. Soon as I pulled that thing off and blew out the port, everything went back to normal. Those magnetic tips are a total gamble, the pins can short out and mess with the audio path for sure. You probably didnt even get a bad batch, they just all seem to have this issue sooner or later. I tossed mine in the trash and went back to a regular cord, not worth frying a phone over.

Man, that is wild because I did the exact same thing with one of those cheap ones off Amazon. @barbara399 is spot on, mine started acting up right after I put it on and I swore my phone was dying. Took me a week to realize it was the stupid little pins shorting out and messing with the audio. I ended up using a can of compressed air to clear out the port and went right back to a plain cord. Never again, those things are just a headache waiting to happen.
