TIL using a simple color key for my monthly spread actually made me stick with bullet journaling after 3 failed attempts in 2020.

I used to spend hours on fancy layouts and stickers but realized a 4-color dot system for tasks, events, notes, and priorities cut my setup time to 10 minutes flat - has anyone else found that simpler works better long term?

Yeah I read somewhere that the whole "decorative bujo" trend actually burns people out because it turns journaling into a chore instead of a tool. The color coding trick is smart though, keeps it functional without the guilt of not making it pretty. That's honestly the only reason I picked mine back up after a year of dust collecting.

Swear by my 3-pen system for exactly this reason. Color coding just tasks, appointments, notes, and high priority items saved my habit from dying every month. It's wild how stripping back all the decoration actually made journaling stick for me.
