My local journal group hates decorated pages, but I love them
Honestly, they say simplicity is key for productivity. Ngl, my colorful spreads make me actually want to use my bujo every day.

Saw a thing once about how the "right" way to do anything is just what works for you. If decorating your pages gets you to open the book and actually do the stuff, that's the whole point. Their group's rule sounds like it's more about control than helping people. My messy, sticker-covered bujo would probably give them a heart attack, but it's the only system I've stuck with for years. Telling people their fun method is wrong just makes them quit entirely.

Why would they discourage what works?

Honestly, that's the thing though. Just because something seems to work doesn't mean it's actually good in the long run. A method might fix a problem right now but create a bigger one later that you can't see yet. Sometimes "what works" for one person ends up making things harder for everyone else. It's like using the wrong tool because it's close by, but you risk breaking the whole thing. So they might discourage it to stop a worse problem from happening down the line.
