My hotel booking strategy changed after a rainy night in Krakow

I used to book the cheapest room possible, anywhere. Now I always check the exact neighborhood on a map first, because getting stuck a 45 minute walk from the old town in a downpour taught me that location is a real cost. Does anyone else have a rule like this after a bad experience?
