Booking flights early is supposedly a scam, but it secured my dream hostel spot.

Locking in dates months ahead meant I got the LAST cheap bed in a prime location.

My panic-booking a flight to Lisbon 6 months out meant I got the last bunk at that popular place by the river. Of course, I also couldn't change it when my cousin decided to get married the same week... so I missed the whole thing. Had to watch the wedding over a shaky video call from a hostel common room. But hey, at least my bed was cheap and in a perfect spot. Early booking is a mixed bag... you win some, you lose some. Still, for getting those hard-to-find spots, it's probably worth the hassle.

HOLD UP! You watched your cousin's entire WEDDING on a shaky call from a hostel common room? That detail is just brutal to imagine. Trading a big family moment for a cheap bunk is a crazy hard choice. Getting locked into plans months early can really backfire when life throws a curveball. Sure, you saved cash, but missing that feels like a total loss. I'm shocked you still think the hassle is worth it after that.

What if the real downside to booking early is how it boxes you in when life happens? @miles_grant35, that video call wedding sounds tough, even with a cheap bunk. We chase those hard to get spots so hard that we forget to leave room for surprises. It's like trading all your flexibility just to save a few bucks. Does that gamble ever feel worth it when you miss out on big moments?
