Why is everyone painting over perfectly good brick fireplaces?
I was at my sister's house in Portland last weekend and she was about to paint her 1950s brick fireplace white. I stopped her and showed her how a simple cleaning with vinegar water and then sealing the brick can brighten the whole room without losing the texture. Painting brick is permanent and once you do it there's no going back. Has anyone else talked a friend out of a bad home upgrade choice?

Paint is a one way street and brick deserves better than that. A good scrub and sealer brings out the natural warmth without ruining the texture forever. Some trends just need a firm no.

Used a gentle pressure wash on my old brick patio and it looked way better than paint ever could.
